On this crazy trek down to Oklahoma, we wanted to create some family memories and have a little vacation as well. We visited the Redwood Forest. We’ll see the Grand Canyon today, but the kids were certainly most excited earlier this week as we spent 3 days in Disneyland.
We had a great time and in recent years they have come with a great system to help with those long lines at certain rides. They’re called “fast passes.” You use your ticket at a kiosk near the attraction and then it tells you when to come back to get into an abbreviated line. It’s wonderful!
This did get me thinking that this approach would work in other areas of life and thought I’d compile a list and ask you to add to it. Ready? Here it goes…
- DMV. Yes, the good old Department of Motor Vehicles was the first place I thought of. Imagine being able to get a pass to come back and then go to the front of the line. Now, if we could replace a few of the ruder agents working there with animatronic presidents, that would be awesome!
- The Doctor’s Office. Imagine not having to be to the Doctor at your appointed time, sitting in the waiting room for all that time, then moving into that little room where for some reason you usually have to remove all your clothes and wrap yourself in butcher paper for another extended period. Now, I like rough paper against my bare skin as much as the next person, but a fast pass would be great here.
- The Gym. No, I don’t mean for any long lines at gym equipment. I would like a fast pass for those six-pack abs, solid arms, etc. You turn in your pass, do a sit-up, and BOOM. You’re there. Yeah, we can all dream!
- Travel. Yes, lines at the airport are annoying and the pat downs are a bit invasive, but I’m thinking more of the travel itself. Like the transporter in Star Trek, you turn in your pass and before you can say “aloha” you’re sipping on a mai tai on the beach.
Okay, I admit I may have slipped a little out of reality there, but as the old saying goes, I think I may need a vacation from my vacation when all this is over. Still, we’re having a blast.
Your turn! Where do you want a fast pass or short cut? How relaxing was your last vacation or trip away?
