Four Years and Counting

October 1, 2008 I started this blog with little clue of what I wanted to do or what the real focus would be. Like a lot of blogs, I opened to deafening silence and kept up that trend for nearly six months before I got a few people to regularly comment and be willing to carry on a conversation.

Since I’ve started, the blog has been through a lot of change. I started on the Blogger platform and I’ve been through many redesigns. Some people have come and gone, while others have been with the conversation for years. Some aren’t frequent commenters, but they remain good friends. In both cases, I’m grateful for the inspiration, encouragement, and challenges I have received from those who have been a part of this site.

I’ve also been through plenty of changes in my life. I became lead pastor of our church body shortly after I started and helped to relaunch it as Breakthrough Church later in 2008/2009. I celebrated my 10-year anniversary with my wife in 2009. My mom went through major heart surgery. People from this blog prayer, supported, and helped to send me and my family to Japan to adopt our son and see us through to completion.

I don’t know all that the future holds, but I’m excited to take the journey with those already in my life and whoever else God places in my life along the way. If we stop growing, we stop living. If we stop living, we have to lose our connection with the Vine because in Him everything is alive (John 15:2).

Knowing God means the privilege and responsibility to move forward.

…But my righteous one will live by faith.
And I take no pleasure
in the one who shrinks back.”

But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved. –Hebrews 10:38-39

Throughout the years, my heart has been not to shrink back but express whatever God laid on my heart. I want to live by faith and challenge others. I want to live, love, laugh, and grow as I continue to rely on Him.

Thank you for being part of my life. I trust our God is providing a blessed hope and a beautiful future.

In honor of this milestone, I want to do something special. Since I love books and music, I figured it made sense to offer you a contest to win a $15 iTunes gift card. All you have to do is enter below and next week I’ll announce a winner. Enter as often as you like.

Whether you’re a longtime part of the community or just stopped by for the first time, I hope you find (or continue to find) honesty and inspiration here. You are appreciated!

What is the biggest change you’ve been through in the last four years?

  1. MovIng from Alaska to Oklahoma. Also, having 3 children in less than four years :). We really miss our home and our home church!

    • That’s a lot of changes. And we miss you guys too, Meghan! 🙂

  2. It’s always a solid shot of encouragement to start my morning. Thanks for being faithful in writing, it literally inspires me to do the same. Many blessings in wherever He continues to lead you in this.

    • That’s so cool that our faithfulness can lead others to faithfulness. Awesome, Philip! Thank you for sharing that. 🙂

  3. I think my biggest change in the past year has been in the area of freedom. God has set my heart free in new ways, there is new passion, focus and desire to share His love.

I have so enjoyed reading your “heart” as you have shared the past few years…I know that you have challenged, encouraged and taught me much and I thank you my brother!

    • That encouragement and challenging goes both ways, Jay, and I’m so honored to have you in my life. I know what you mean about that freedom too. It’s hard to put into “concrete” words, but I know what He is doing in me is substantial and forever. Thank you so much.

  4. God is so good!
Thanks for sharing Him with the world.
    Congrats on your milestone.

    Eph 3:20

    • I appreciate you, TC. Blessings and thank you!

  5. Congrats on the anniversary Jason. I am glad to be part of your blogging community. You enrich my life in various ways.

    • Wow, Andrew. I appreciate that so much. Thank you.

  7. Like Jason said in his blog I went though major surgery. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the prayers of my family, friends, and I know I had people praying for me I didn’t even really know. God loving mercy and grce is more than enough. I am so proud of you Jason, the uplifting words that I know are from your heavenly Fathers heart. Willing to post what your going through to uplift others. I am proud the man you have become.

    • Thank you, Mom. 🙂

  8. I’ve always enjoyed your blog. It’s made me think and even dig a little deeper into my faith.
One of the biggest changes I’ve been through is actually being able to forget what is behind, and boldly stepping ahead. It hasn’t always been easy..quite the opposite, but everytime I do, it has been well worth it.

    • What a blessing that is, Ed. To let go of our past and let Him define our present and our future? That’s a precious gift. You are an encouragement to me, brother!

  9. It’s amazing how God has used this means of technology to touch the lives of His children. My life and family have been blessed by your words and heart, Jason. I’m honored to call you my friend and brother. “Not shrinking back,” suits you well…

    • And it’s only by grace for sure! And I am blessed to have your love and wisdom in my life as well, Floyd. I appreciate you, brother!

  10. Congratulations on four years of blogging Jason! I have appreciated your wisdom and heart for God and others!

    • You’re such a blessing and encouragement to me, Kevin. Thank you so much for all your support through these years!

  11. I lost a great paying full time job and have yet to find a full time, great paying job since. It’s been a crazy life change to say the least, but definitely character building.

    • Man, I hear ya. We want to know what it means to have faith and God answers us in crazy ways. It doesn’t always seem like the sane route, but He’s there with us. Thanks Jason.

  12. In the last 4 years? How about becoming the father of 3? 🙂
