Great Is Thy Faithfulness

God is Provider. It’s His name and who He is.

He provided a ram for Abraham and Isaac. He provided in the wilderness for Israel. He provided prophets, priests, and kings. He provided food for 5,000 men plus women and children. He provided and offered Himself as Savior.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? –Romans 8:31-32

Material things do not equate to the blessing of God, but I want to share a testimony about God helping us get a car.

For nearly a year, Andrea and I have been down to one car and it’s been hard at times, but manageable. Right now she’s looking a job where she would have to have her own car in order to do it so the pressure was on to find something.

With our trying to close on a house, getting a loan was out of the question because we couldn’t risk jeopardizing everything on that front. We looked at different things, and I prayed. I knew God had provided an answer before there was a need. I desperately tried to trust Him and stay in that place of faith even though circumstances would try to push me into anxiety.

wayWe had an older Ford Expedition with a burned out engine that the mechanic said he could restore for us for $4000. Not bad, but we only had about half that. What kind of car can you get for around $2000 that isn’t going to fall apart as you drive it off the lot?

Thursday morning I was leading chapel for the elementary, high school, and college students on campus. At one point, I was so touched by God as the One who does the impossible. I encouraged the kids, whether it be personal or for someone else, to bring that impossible situation to Him and trust that He will move. For me, I immediately had our need for a car pass before me.

Unknown to me, my wife was a woman on a mission this morning and drove a few used cars. Some were scary. Some were still too expensive. But there was one that caught her eye. It was a Taurus station wagon like one we had driven and loved years ago in Alaska when our minivan was in the shop. She had found it a gas station/mechanic that also sold used cars.

Not a fancy car, but in fair condition. She checked the blue book value and it was nearly $5000, but they had marked it down to $2700. She drove it, we drove it together, my uncle who knows cars checked it out for us. It was looking up!

We knew it was a deal, but we decided to ask for a little more off the price. The boss met us at $2,300!

I’m amazed that what has been a source of anxiety for me, God turned around in a day. I had no way to get what I needed, but He provided wonderfully.

Material possessions don’t prove anything, but God can certainly use them to show His faithfulness once again. All I have needed, His hand has provided… Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.

How about you? What’s your testimony or what are you thankful for this week?
