I Want to Love Jesus More

You wade through the accusations. You fight off condemnation. You struggle and you fight. It doesn’t have to be something “deep, dark” but it could be.

I found myself here a few days ago–feeling blah, feeling far away from God. Nothing bad, just feeling like you’re not progressing and stuck and not sure how to change it.

I went to bed feeling all this. It was like a swirl of clouds over my head, but something interesting happened during the night. I woke up and found myself praying, “I just want to love Jesus more.”

When I breathed these words, not more than a whisper, it was as if I bolted up in the bed even though I know I didn’t. It had that effect on me.

Several more times in the night as I would wake up, I would say those simple words again, “I just want to love Jesus more” and I’ll feel His calming and peace.

By the time morning came, I had probably prayed this half a dozen times… and I keep praying it.

Jesus, I want to love you more than my own comfort.
I want to love you more than what I feel are my rights.
I want to love you more than doing something important and feeling important.
I just want to love you more!

Whether you feel your struggles are of the “deep, dark” variety or more of the feeling blah, I invite you to join with me in this prayer. I believe it’s one of those Holy Spirit praying through us type of prayers when we don’t know what to do or say.

In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; –Romans 8:26

I want to see Him, to know Him–and in doing so, I know I’ll love Him more. How could we not? He’s beautiful.

“Jesus, You’re Beautiful” by Jon Thurlow, sung by Jeremy Riddle

How about you? Does this stir in your like it does me?

  1. This message was just what I needed to hear. I feel God telling me to trust and love Him more. The song Jesus your Beautiful is one of my favorite worship songs. I’m on a worship team and whenever we play it I try to hold back tears! This song has touched my life so much! Thank you Jason! May God bless you for impacting so many lives!!!

    • That’s awesome (and so encouraging to me), Jaylynn. It’s always my prayer to have a timely word and I love how He draws us together to give that encouragement. I love that song too! So amazing. Thanks so much.

  2. Nice!!! Those moments when our Father reaches out and touches our souls is satisfying in a way that nothing physical in this world can ever match. To acknowledge Him is to find peace in honoring Him… and we’re lifted up. Great post and reminder of how simple it really is to have true peace in this world.

    • It’s such a reminder of the truth of 1 Peter 5:6-7, “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” We can cast all our anxiety on Him because He cares! He’s so good to us. Thanks so much, Floyd!

  3. This is a reminder that we can love Jesus back. Of course, yes, He loved us first, but love is always at the head of a beautiful relationship! Thanks Jason!

    • Absolutely! So thankful He’s opened our eyes to His love and we do get to love Him back. Thanks Ed!

  4. Jesus, I want to love you more than my own comfort. That prayer is what got us to the mission field. But I would pray it again in a heart beat.

    • Yeah, exactly. That sort of prayer is why we’re still foster parents. He hasn’t called us to easy things, but He loves us (and loves through us) all the way. Thank you, Betty.
