Light Friday Hit List: 9/3/10

September 3, 2010 4:14 am discussion, Encouragement, Light Friday Hit List

Rounding up posts from around the web that challenged, inspired, encouraged, made me laugh, or all of the above. Be sure to check out these favorites and tell them I sent you!

  • Just How Rich Are We? by Trey Morgan (TreyMorgan.net). Trey is shining a light on poverty week, some sad and shocking statistics, and what we can do to help (go check out the posts for all week).
  • Nice Guys Finish…What? by Glynn Young (High Calling Blogs). Glynn tells a great story to honor a man who lived with integrity in his work and how it impacted his own life. Great to hear a story like this about someone in corporate America.
  • Big Announcement: Water! by Matt (The Church of No People). Matt always writes insightful, humorous pieces about church and Christianity, but this one is all about helping a great cause in providing water to the poorest of poor. He and 29 other bloggers are trying to raise $30,000 so go check it out!
  • Thrill Ride by Fatha Frank (Public Christianity). This post talks about how the thrills in our lives change slightly when we get to experience them through the eyes of a child. He asks some great questions and offers insight.
  • Your Affair Can Only Teach Me So Much by Carlos Whitaker (Ragamuffin Soul). I just like the approach here because he talks about how we can be drawn sometimes by the scandalous and asks about learning from those who have stayed together in marriage to learn their secrets too. Go check it out.
  • Also, if you haven’t checked out the book club discussion for The Hole in Our Gospel chapter 1 then please do. Be sure to read all the great response posts that were added. We started and will continue an incredible conversation. Thank you all for participating!

I don’t know if you know this, but I am known for prizing resourcefulness… and sled dogs. When I saw this photo via Dave Barry’s blog this week, I knew it had to be the random picture of the week. Alaskans say, “No boat? No problem!” Behold this triumph of the human spirit:

John Wagner/News-Miner Amber Hajdukovich, 9, waterskis along the banks of the Chena River behind the dogsled team of musher Brent Sass on Monday afternoon, Aug. 30, 2010, behind Compeau’s during the filming of Stupid Alaskan Tricks, a reality television show modeled after David Letterman’s “Stupid Human Tricks.”

I don’t know if you have a long weekend, but I am thankful that I do. There are plenty of chores to do, but I’m headed for some rest as well. Besides that, I am privileged as always to join with our Breakthrough Church family, experience God’s presence, and let His word go a little (or a lot) deeper. Excited about all the things He has planned for us!

Do you have a favorite to share or want to talk about one of mine? Let me hear you! Also, in light of our random pic, what’s the craziest  thing (keep it PG) that you’ve done on water? The floor is yours!

That pic is great! Love it!

Probably the craziest (and scariest) thing I have done in the water is allow myself to float out too far while snorkeling in the Bahamas with one kid strapped to my back and holding onto the other. We all had our heads in the water the whole time…failing to realize we went out about 1/4 mile. I heard the sound of an engine and realized that my husband sent someone come out with a boat to “rescue” us. We never realized we needed rescue as we were too busy looking at the gorgeous fish. There was a shark attack later that night in the same area we were. neat.

So not sure if that constitutes crazy or just not-so-bright on my part.

I invite you to visit my blog today….to join me in the WOW factor zone.

Michelle, I love snorkeling! It’s so much fun. I can see how that would get scary with two kids so far out. :)
