The Name I Need

I’m teaching a new song to our congregation this week. It’s called, “King of Heaven” by Hillsong United. I try to be sensitive to what other leaders are feeling and what I’m feeling myself, and this song certainly goes along with that.

Besides that, I need it personally.

Emmanuel, God with us
Emmanuel, hallelujah

God gives us revelation of Himself all throughout scripture through the names He chose to identify Himself with. When revealing a new covenant and Author of salvation, this was one of the names He gave. What a tremendous hope our Emmanuel brings. He is the eternal King, and still He dwells with us.

“Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.”  –Matthew 1:23

So many distractions in this life–many challenges, many setbacks. My God looks past all that swirls around you and me and speaks His name, “I am Emmanuel… I’m with you, I’ve been with you.” And the depression, oppression, and hardship bows down as I call on the name of my Lord.

For whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:13).

Does this song speak to you? What name of God are you calling on today?

  1. That’s a wonderful song. I’m calling Him Father… and blessed by His grace to do so. Thanks for sharing this, Jason. It’s awesome. And yes, I agree, all things bow before His majestic sovereignty…

    • Our Abba, Father--what a privilege. So humbling! Thank you, Floyd.
