Warrior Poet Circle: Hope Is Wild

Hope isn’t flimsy, frail, or fragile
Hope is towering, strong, and agile
Hope won’t be tied to specific outcomes
Hope is tied to the God who reigns
Hope isn’t bowed by winds and changing seasons
Hope is renewed that every step is
Nearer to Him, nearer to fulfillment
Hope isn’t common, boring, or indifferent
Hope is exquisite, exciting, and passionate
My hope gets deferred and heart sick when I foolishly try
To limit God to my thoughts, my ways,
How I would change these circumstances
But my God is beyond limit, beyond reason, beyond compare
Hope placed there is adventure, confidently expressed
I will put my wild hope in this untamed God
And shame can’t find its way to me

Proverbs 13:12 Psalm 25:3 Romans 15:13

Welcome to the 35th edition of the Warrior Poet Circle. Time to pull up a seat, gather around the fire, and pour out our verses.

This is a repost of a poem I wrote in 2010. We have ministry guests in town and my wife and I helped someone move last night until around midnight so writing my poetry took a backseat this time! These words still stir me though and carry such deep meaning. I pray they touch you as well!

If you have a poem to add, please add it to the widget and be sure to visit the others who are a part too. Thank you!

    • I totally agree, Mike! It’s great to express ourselves in a little different way. Thanks so much for participating.

  5. Hope is confidence in Him who gives life physically and eternally. I’d say you described what it is and what it isn’t quite eloquently and yet powerful. Nice job… show off! Just kidding, just in the mood, know what I mean?

    • Floyd, I can take the ribbing--don’t hold back on my account! :) And thank you. Being inspired by real hope is a great thing!

  6. “I will put my wild hope in this untamed God”

    Amen! Me too!

    • Thanks Kevin!

  7. I like the way the repetition of the word “Hope” becomes this powerful mantra, creating an underlying beat of hopefulness throughout the poem simply through its continual expression of itself.

    • Thanks so much, Cheoy!
