Warrior Poet Circle: Rest Works

Rest is easy to those who have attained
But to those who strive it’s a dream despised
Closer, they approach, but it falls out of grasp
Security fades with each new possession to protect
Greater knowledge uncensored brings unruly madness
Unbelief comes to ice hearts and spur rebellious minds
What then can be done? Is there truly rest to find?
Yes, in diligent faith and confident boldness
In obedient trust to the word of the Father
In the quieting of storms and mental furies
This is rest that abides, but not in passivity
But wide-eyed, alert compassion and victory
It’s not just about refraining but engaging
Heaven’s rest is secure
Heaven’s rest works

11 Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience.12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. –Hebrews 4:11-12

  1. It’s not just about refraining but engaging
    Heaven’s rest is secure
    Heaven’s rest works

    I love this ending!

    • Thanks so much, Jason!

  2. Amen!

In diligent faith, trusting in Him, I find rest.

    • Absolutely! Thanks Dusty.

  3. Amazing how that verse jumped out in power today. It is all about obedience… there is no rest in disobedience…

Awesome poem to evoke thought… You do pretty good on vacation!

    • No rest in disobedience. How often do we justify our sins and disobedience and then wonder how come we don’t have peace, or how come our walks with God are growing cold?

      • More times than I count, but he gives opportunity after opportunity. Grace meets us in our humble places. I’m so glad! Thank you, TC.

    • Ha! I appreciate that, Floyd! A little rest can do you good. :)

  4. Awesome poem…. I keep meaning to write one for you, but have yet to sit down and actually do it. Good stuff to meditate on here.

    • Thanks so much, Philip. I would definitely encourage you to write some poetry. I love the different avenues of expression you get with it! Thanks again.

  5. I love to rest its my favorite past time 😉 but before I shut my eyes I say Lord if there’s a revelation you have for me display it to me in my sleep. He never fails at all to do that not to brag but those are some of the best experiences I’ve had. Like one time I heard a loud voice that said wake up and realize no one is there, And I saw this shining light around my bed. There was another time when I had the stomach flu and at our house sickness & disease has no place, so the whole day I kept repeating to myself By His Strips I’m Healed ! All of a sudden I felt a feeling like you do when you get shocked from electricity and I was all better. So resting In The Lord is the best way to sleep.

    • I have had wonderful encounters with God in the night where I wake up strengthened and refreshed by His presence. I can testify on that one! Thanks Andrew.

      • If your wondering about that comment about the shock of electricity yes I unfortunately had a experience of walking into a electric fence at night lol.

        • Oh man, I hope you’re joking! Ouch. That would hurt!

  6. Unfortunately its true, It was Christmas eve 2008 and I was out delivering Christmas baskets around 5:30 pm here in Minnesota (And its pitch dark) and one of the people I was delivering baskets for has cattle so I saw him tending to the cattle I was trying to get his attention so I decided to walk and tap him on the shoulder. Well it being pitch black and snow knee high I forgot about the fence I walked into It threw me backwards into a bank of snow.
