Wisdom that Founded Worlds

The Lord by wisdom founded the earth,
By understanding He established the heavens.
By His knowledge the deeps were broken up
And the skies drip with dew.
My son, let them not vanish from your sight;
Keep sound wisdom and discretion,
So they will be life to your soul
And adornment to your neck. –Proverbs 3:19-22

As I read these verses, something struck me a little differently. Everything we see and know in the physical realm sprang from God’s wisdom. I know that doesn’t sound groundbreaking, but if that is true, it has some implications. It means that everything wasn’t founded on my wisdom or insight or understanding. It also wasn’t founded on (and neither did He consult) the most brilliant minds of humanity and their deepest thoughts and wondering. Job heard a thing or three about that subject.

earthNo, God’s wisdom did all of it and this is what He offers to us so that we might live our lives. If we truly believe that He set all this universe in motion and spoke it into existence with His own foresight and omniscience, we can trust Him with our big and small concerns. We don’t have to back down when it seems crazy to follow His word because He set it all up and those who follow Him overcome. No wonder He says those that trust in Him will not be shaken.

Solomon directs his son to keep this wisdom in front of His eyes at all times. It’s that important because we can so easily forget and ultimately our lives slip away from us. If we trust Him–the God who created it all and keeps it in existence by His own powerful word–it keeps the life in our living. It nourishes and refreshes our soul–our mind, will, and emotions. Not only that, but it becomes like a badge that everyone else will notice as we go through our day to day, even mundane issues of life.

How can I get so confused to think I know better or because I don’t understand why He would ask something that I can’t follow through? Everything I see is a product of His heart and wisdom. The intricacies of nature and the complexities of even the smallest cells are astounding. If His wisdom can do that, He can handle my questions and lead me rightly on raising a family, leading a church, building a business, and every little thing I come across.

Father, thank you for the privilege to discover, know, and follow Your wisdom. Help me to value it as I should and quickly respond…

What are your thoughts on these verses? What stands out?

Another in a series of monthly posts where I go through Proverbs a verse or two at a time and share the whispers of the Holy Spirit to my heart (click here for more verse by verse posts).

  1. “By His knowledge the deeps were broken up”

I’m thrilled to discover those “DEEP” things inside of me. The hurts, the cover ups, the dreams and all the things He wants to heal or release. His knowledge of me is so vast and complex and yet He shares that wisdom so I can grow in Him…so very awesome!

    Thanks Jason…bless ya!

    • I love that! The things that would disturb or distract, He has no trouble breaking them up and bringing true liberation and restoration. Thanks so much, Jay.

  2. Awesome reminder! God of all things supplies the power to the sun and all of the cosmos. The enlightened of our world point to theories and hypothesis that fall woefully short. Why is it that one planet is orbiting the opposite direction from all the others? Science has nothing… The wisdom of God confounds the lost who are desperate to prove Him false or non existant… No wonder they have such frustration… The enemy can’t prevail against God who supplies the very breath to living things.

Each breath He provides belongs to Him and is due to His love and omnipotence…

    • The heavens and earth declare His wisdom, glory, and authority. The only question is, are we listening? You’re so right, Floyd. Thank you.
